The distribution of the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19 in the United States already has a date, and in Mexico too
This morning the FDA reported that it will issue an urgent authorization for Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine so that the first Americans can be immunized between Monday and Tuesday. The US Food and Drug Administration explains that it made this decision after a vote yesterday in favor of the emergency use of the vaccine.
The vaccine will help stop the pandemic in the United States, which has lamented the loss of more than 285 thousand lives due to the coronavirus. Pfizer’s vaccine has been shown to be 95 percent effective in preventing the disease in an advanced-stage trial – even FDA data showed last month that the vaccine began to show protection against the virus, even long before that the volunteers received the second dose.
Alex Azar, who oversees the FDA and is secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, said in an interview with ABC News that regulatory clearance will have to take place in a few days. He also reported that the federal government will work together with the company to begin redistributing the vaccine.
The pharmaceutical company Pfizer is requesting that the two-dose vaccine be approved for use in persons 16 to 85 years of age. At the moment the vaccine was approved in the United Kingdom, where its inhabitants began to receive it this Tuesday. Countries like Bahrain and Canada have also authorized the vaccine, they are only waiting to confirm dates.
It will be the health workers who will receive the vaccine first and then the stages of vaccination will be made known to the rest of the people.
For its part, Mexico signed a contract with the Pfizer company to access 34.4 million doses. Vaccine applications are expected to begin in the third week of December, revealed Hugo López-Gatell, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion in Mexico.
This Tuesday at a morning press conference headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, López Gatell reported how the vaccination process will be in Mexico.
First, it will be for health workers who have been at the forefront of the fight against covid all this year. Then it will be the remaining health personnel and people 60 years of age and over, which is estimated to start in February and end in April.
Subsequently, the dose will be applied to people from 50 to 59 years of age, in the period of April and May.
In May-June, it will be the turn of people aged 40 to 49.
Finally to the rest of the population from June 2021.
