BestColleges’ seventh annual Online Education Trends Report offers insights developed by analyzing feedback provided by students and faculty administrators. This report includes our fifth year of original data collection and features participation from 366 school administrators and 1,800 students. Students surveyed include prospective online students, current online students (i.e., those enrolled in fully online programs), current remote learners (i.e., those enrolled in courses not offered face to face thanks to COVID-19), and online program alumni. Findings are presented in four categories: the training experience, marketing and recruitment, program design and administration, and student satisfaction.
The Learning Experience
Paying for school while minimizing student debt remains the highest challenge to reaching graduation, as reported by online program graduates per annum for the past four years.
Almost half (49%) of remote learners anticipated enrolling in online courses after their campuses return to normal operations.
More than one-quarter (28%) of remote students believed the impact of COVID-19- related changes on their college experience will have lasting effects on their psychological state .
Online education has gained immense popularity among working professionals and students pursuing education . These categories of online learners find immense benefit within the autonomy and adaptability that these courses offer. Online courses are often planned around their schedule which can include full-time employment, internships and caring for family. Online learning also can help them remove some quiet time to review .
Distance learning has been around for an extended time, even before technology made it extremely accessible. Traditional schooling is now seeing an increased proliferation of virtual training materials and online courses. Even during a world of tried and tested schooling systems and curricula, the foremost successful schools are those who adapt to the changing times, also on the expectations of scholars , parents and therefore the society.
